Biography

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Terry grew up and went to school in the Canadian prairies.  He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, in order to pursue his dream of being an actor, and now his focus and ambition are paying off in a big way.  His supporting role as ‘Ben Fong Torres’ in the much-lauded film Almost Famous (2000), directed by Cameron Crowe, has been praised in reviews from Variety magazine to Ebert & Roeper at the Movies.

This year, Terry has two lead roles in upcoming feature films including a leading role in ‘War’ starring Jet Li and a lead role in the thriller/horror ‘THEY WAIT’ which is showcasing at the Toronto International Film Festival under the Canada First! Titles.

Among his upcoming feature releases, recent films have included a lead role opposite Billy Zane and Dennis Hopper in the psychological thriller Memory (2006).  Terry recently faced his fear of reptiles to play a K-1 Kickboxer in Snakes on a Plane (2006), a film starring Samuel L. Jackson about poisonous snakes let loose on an airplane to deter an FBI agent onboard, directed by David Ellis for New Line Cinema.

In between film projects, Terry acts in pilots and takes on both guest starring and recurring roles for episodic television. He recently wrapped a recurring role in Big Day—an ABC pilot about weddings that has been picked up for the fall 2006 season.

Terry has impressed everyone he has worked with as an actor to be watched. He truly has star-quality and the focus and drive to make his dream a reality.

VANCOUVER, BC –March, 2010---Terry Chen will play a supporting role alongside an all-star cast in the highly anticipated upcoming feature film ‘The A-Team’, out June 11th. The action-thriller, filmed in Vancouver, is directed by acclaimed writer/director Joe Carnahan (NARC, Smokin’ Aces),also stars Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel and Liam Neeson.

Terry Chen is widely regarded as one of Canada’s top exports in the entertainment industry. His passion, determination and drive have resulted in an impressive resume of versatile film and television roles. Terry’s Hollywood debut as Rolling Stones editor 'Ben Fong Torres' in Cameron Crowe's Academy Award-winning film Almost Famous has garnered praise from the likes of 'Variety' magazine, to 'Ebert & Roeper at the Movies'. The intensity, commitment and strong natural talent he displayed helped launch an impressive career that continues to showcase Terry's incredible range and versatility as an actor. He has amassed over 60 film and television credits to date that include striking accomplishments such as a starring role opposite Academy Award nominee Dennis Hopper in the thriller Memory, and appearing alongside Samuel L. Jackson in Snakes on a Plane. He also turned in a strong dynamic performance with Jet Li and Jason Statham in War.

Terry can next be seen in two new upcoming SyFy Channel shows: Riverworld and Sanctuary. In Riverworld, Chen plays a World War I Chinese American fighter pilot caught in a surreal world of purgatory. He will also be on the upcoming third season of the popular series Sanctuary, on which he plays 'Charles', an evil scientist battling wits with an elite team of monster hunters. Also see him guest star on 'V' the series as Dr. Maita, this spring.

The multi-talented actor is also in the process of producing and starring in a screenplay he has co-written with Olivia Cheng, titled Deadmonton. The film follows Van Louie (Olivia Cheng, Broken Trail, Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking), a beautiful young Chinese television news assistant, who dreams of becoming a journalist. Lately, the news revolves around Edmonton’s plague of Asian-based gang violence; a world Van knows all too well through her brother and circle of friends, including childhood gal pal Jules (Grace Park, Battlestar Galatica, The Cleaner). While Van is struggling for a life free from the threat of guns, drugs and violence, she finds herself reporting on exactly that to get ahead. The return of her estranged boyfriend Tommy (Terry Chen) complicates the situation further, as she is pulled back into the familiar cycle by her deep-rooted loyalties, And when her two worlds inevitably collide, Van's own actions set off a tragic chain of events that jeopardize her family and friends while bringing the city's escalating racial tensions to a dangerous boiling point.

Terry is a proud Canadian, and is passionate about working in film and television projects in his native country. Like many Canadian actors, Terry had to relocate to Los Angeles in the past, in order to further his acting career. Although the option to stay where he calls ‘home’ would have been most favourable, the path to advance his career was inevitably in Hollywood. Recently Terry made the move back to Vancouver to write and produce movies, as well as continue his acting career.

Terry has come full circle in the entertainment industry, starting as a Canadian actor working in U.S productions filmed in Vancouver over ten years ago, he then made the move to L.A to pursue more opportunities, and is now back in Vancouver having signed a picture deal on a locally filmed big budget Hollywood feature.

Terry is also very proud to be one of the first Asian-Canadian actors to break into mainstream Hollywood, with roles on big budget and critically acclaimed projects.

When he does find time to himself, Terry also runs marathons. Having run the Vancouver BMO and Scotiabank marathons last year, he's in the middle of training for his 3rd marathon in May.
