For immediate release—May 2010, Vancouver—Canadian actor Peter Benson is nominated for a 2010 Leo Award in the Best Performance by a Male in a Short Drama category, for his portrayal of the title role in ‘Scott’s Land’. Peter not only starred in the movie, but also wrote, produced and directed the comedy with co-star Benjamin Ayres. The film follows Scott, a health insurance salesman who has never had a girlfriend. Life seems dismal, until he suffers a fluke head injury and is diagnosed with Foreign Accent Syndrome. He instantly acquires a Scottish accent, and it isn’t long before Scott and his only friend, Helix, are using his newly acquired ‘Super Power’ as a ploy to attract women. Hilarity ensues as the two desperately try to succeed with the opposite sex. Due to its popular reception, ‘Scott’s Land’ is currently being developed into a feature length version. The Leo Awards honour the best in British Columbia film and television, with this year’s Gala Award Ceremony taking place on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. This isn’t the first time one of Peter’s performances has received critical acclaim: He was the winner of the Golden Sheaf Award for Best Actor in a Short Film for the movie ‘Pits’, also starring Alan Cumming.
Peter has been continuously adding versatile film and television roles to his acting repertoire, since he discovered his passion for performance. His television credits include recurring roles on both ‘Psych’ and ‘The L Word’, as well as the critically acclaimed CBC series ‘jPod’. His other small screen credits include roles on ‘Stargate’, ‘Smallville’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘Masters of Horror’ and ‘Reaper’.
Peter’s list of film credits is just as notable. It includes a supporting lead role in the MOW ‘Trophy Wife’, starring Brooke Burns, a lead role in the ‘The Break-Up Artist’ starring Amanda Crew, and the role of Vinnie Jones in ‘Smokin’ Aces 2’. Next up for the busy actor is a lead role in the upcoming Canadian comedy ‘The Wingman’, due out later this year. The hilarious comic romp has Peter playing Jack, a lovably manipulative womanizer who cons an innocent guy into being his wingman so they can pick up girls.
Since being involved in his first theatre performance at 11 years old, Peter has known there was no turning away from the entertainment industry. He spent his summers during University at acting classes and participating in as many productions as possible. From there, he attended the Vancouver Film School’s acting program, and recently completed the Totally Television Program through the National Screen institute (NSI). Through this program, Peter and his partners secured a development deal with City TV for a new single-camera comedy series called ‘Kits’.
When Peter isn’t busy working on a project, him and his wife enjoy hiking with their chocolate lab, Bauer. A sports enthusiast, Peter is an avid Canucks fan. He also enjoys writing and working on scripts.
Peter is available for interviews, photographs and appearances upon request.
