Multi-talented producer/director/actor & screenwriter Kelly-Ruth Mercier nominated for Leo Award
Kelly-Ruth is nominated for the Best Screenwriting Award for the short
“No One Knows You Like Your Mother”
For immediate release—May 2010, Vancouver—We are pleased to announce that multifaceted talent Kelly-Ruth Mercier is nominated in the Best Screenwriting in a Short Drama category at the 2010 Leo Awards. She is the writer, producer and director of the Leo nominated production ‘No One Knows You Like Your Mother’, for which she was also the 2008 DGC/BC Film Kickstart Award Recipient. . The Leo Awards honour the best in British Columbia film and television, with this year’s Gala Award Ceremony taking place on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. Kelly-Ruth wears many hats in her incredibly successful career in the entertainment industry. She spends the majority of her time developing, writing, producing and directing feature films, documentaries and shorts. She is currently directing ‘Move Out Clean’; a production for which she won the 2010 MPPIA / Whistler Film Festival Short Film Award. She received $15,000 in cash and $100,000 in in-kind services from the MPPIA membership in order to make the film. ‘Move Out Clean’ will premiere at the 2010 Whistler Film Festival.
The passionate story-teller is currently developing a number of projects, including the feature films ‘How to Get a Date’, ‘Taken Identity’ and ‘I Think, Therefore I Drive’. A number of television series are also in the works, including ‘Midlife Critical’ and ‘Old People Cooking’.
Other award-winning productions Kelly-Ruth has worked on as a writer, producer, director, and/or VFX producer include ‘24/7’, ‘Hamster Cage’, ‘The Watchers’, ‘Once Upon A Time On The Beach’, ‘Still Life With Scissors’, ‘The Rock & Roll Kid’ and ‘7 Seconds’, starring Wesley Snipes.
As an actor, Kelly-Ruth has had numerous recognizable roles, including a fantastic turn in a ‘Smallville’ episode entitled ‘Noir’. She also played Peter Deluise’s wife on the CTV series ‘Robson Arms’, which also starred her husband, fellow thespian David Richmond-Peck.
Kelly-Ruth’s repertoire of impressive film and television credits doesn’t end there, it also includes roles on ‘Supernatural’, ‘Cold Squad’, ‘The L Word’, ‘The Days’, ‘Black Harbour’, ‘Instant’ (nominated for numerous 2010 Leo Awards), ‘Sorry Girl’, ‘Watching Mrs. Pomerantz’, ‘I Want to Marry Ryan Banks’, ‘Paint Cans’ and ‘Battle in Seattle’.
A natural director of theatre, Kelly-Ruth will helm four shows by summer of 2011: “Lobby Hero” (opening fall 2010), “Bonjour La Bonjour” (Nov/Dec 2010), Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow” in (Spring 2010) and the musical “The Last Session” (spring/summer 2011).
Kelly-Ruth knew from an early age that she would be involved in the entertainment business. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, her directorial debut was as a fourth grader; when she wrote, directed, produced and starred in her own episode of ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and presented to her entire school.
She and her husband live in Vancouver, with their rescued Golden Retriever, Jo Jo and 7 year-old cross-breed Henry, who keep them in shape with daily walks. One of Kelly-Ruth’s most memorable experiences was as a Torch Bearer in the 2010 Olympic Relay.
